In recognition of outstanding broadcast journalism

WIKY News was honored April 4, 2009 by the Indiana Associated Press Broadcasters Assoc. as having The Outstanding News Department among large market radio stations. The WIKY News Department was chosen over competitors from other large markets served by the Indiana AP wire, including those in Chicago, Indianapolis, Louisville, Fort Wayne and South Bend. WIKY News also was presented with first place honors for Best Newscast, Best Spot News Coverage, Best Community Impact, Best Continuous Coverage and Best Public Affairs Program. The awards recognized coverage of major news events during 2008. “It is nice to be recognized by your peers for simply doing what you’re paid to do, serving in the public interest and need,” said Randy Wheeler, WIKY News Director. Wheeler praised the efforts of all of the members of the WIKY news team for their broadcast journalism excellence.
