From time to time on the WIKY Morning Show, we enjoy solving what we call “little mysteries.”  We received a call this morning from Donna Hollander who lives off Sharon Road in Newburgh.  She and her family have been hearing a weird sound for the past couple of weeks that she said sounded like something from “War of the Worlds.”  What in the world could it be?

On the WIKY Morning Show we posed the question - where is the ONE place you'd take a visiting friend or family member?

Among the several calls and emails we received, The Hilltop, Gerst House, Moonlite, China Bistro, Angelo's, Piece of Cake, and the Log Inn were the most popular restuarants mentioned.  Audubon Park, Garden of the Gods, Angel Mounds, the Evansville museum and planetarium downtown, CMOE, Casino Aztar, Mesker Park Zoo and the LST 325 were the most popular attractions.

The Public Education Foundation is having their 2nd annual Confections of the Rich and Decadent, The Ultimate Bake Sale, and Amy Walker of the PEF successfully recruited Diane and me to donate a baked goodie.  Last year, you may recall, I offered a Coca-Cola chocolate cake, the first thing I had ever baked.  A very nice woman bought it and actually said it was tasty.  Clearly, she was just being polite.  But I thanked her anyway.

This year, I was all set to go with this suggestion from Patti Hilton, a no-bake fudge recipe –

I love shopping for clothes between seasons.  You know, when stores are thinning out their inventory and put a lot of stuff on sale.  Dillards does a wonderful job of slashing end-of-season apparel and you can get great deals on decent clothes.  Generally, you also have a limited selection.  Here’s the shirt we talked about on the WIKY Morning Show.   I bought it last Fall for $8.  I wore it a few times before my wife noticed it and asked, “Where did you get that ugly shirt?”  I don’t think it’s that bad and judging

With record flooding across the Tri-state, we’ve heard from a number of families and neighborhoods where sandbagging has taken on the literal meaning of using a shovel and a strong back.

I’ve heard from a number of folks curious about our American RV adventure to Gulf Shores (or judging from the number of people we ran into from the Tri-state while we were there, “Evansville-by-the-Sea.”)

The American RV rental we used was a 28 foot Class C recreational vehicle. Those are the kind built on a truck frame (as opposed to the flat front bus-like Class A RV). Handling is a big question. A few I’ve talked to were a bit intimidated by having to drive such a large vehicle. And, I was

It was a Spring Break of firsts - first ever Spring vacation, first time to Gulf Shores, Alabama, and the first time on any trip in an RV. American RV, in the recreation vehicle business in Evansville for 40 years, set us up with one of their rental units and off we went to the sand and surf of the Gulf Coast.

My impression? It was, top to bottom, one of the nicest vacations my family has experienced. Being a long-time tent camper, I was a bit skeptical how the whole RV thing would work out for us. Come on?  Y

I’ve hooked up with American RV (US 41 & Baseline Road) to use one of their RVs on a Spring Break vacation next week.  This will represent a couple of firsts – it’s the first time we’ve taken a spring vacation and it’s the first time we’ve used an RV to camp.

For years, among the biggest secrets in the world has famously been the formula for Coca-Cola.  It's up there with the secret recipe for KFC, where the government is keeping the aliens, and what happened to Jimmy Hoffa (who is not buried in the endzone at Giants stadium, Mythbusters proved that).

With Valentines Day on Monday, we’ve been talking about it on the WIKY Morning Show.

We found this article interesting -

Yesterday's accident at the Westside Steak and Shake was a major topic of discussion on the WIKY Morning Show.  Since the accident involved an elderly gentleman who mistook the gas for the brake as the cause, the subject of seniors behind the wheel was predictably at the forefront of the conversation.  In fact, Diane had noticed this story from ABC News just last week -

A Wall Street blogger recently listed a number of familiar business, including some with locations in Evansville, that might not make it to the end of 2011.

Here are the businesses we talked about on the WIKY Morning Show -

This week on the WIKY Morning Show we discussed a new study that found the ancients had it wrong. Thanks to a typo, you’ve been assigned the wrong Astrological sign. Well, not so fast.  Thanks to WIKY loyal listener Ralph Merkley who ran across this from CNN.com –

Tattoo parlor owners must be salivating.

Huge news in the world of astrology that Diane and I were talking about on the WIKY Morning Show.

Astronomers took the zodiac and adapted it based on the way the Earth's axis was shifted during the Babylonian period, when the original astrological charts were created. The scientists found that all of the dates when the sun is in each zodiac constellation's "house" have changed!

So, if you want to

We’ve all watched prison movies where cigarettes are the currency of choice among inmates. Well, now that so many people have quit smoking, including inmates, cigarettes have lost their value as currency.

On the Friday before Thanksgiving you may remember me mentioning that it was the last day of 2010.  Diane scoffed, listeners scolded, and even my family said I was nuts.  But I still think I was right.  Here we are, well over a month later, and schedules and routines still aren't back on track.  And won't be until the Monday after MLK day in a couple of weeks.

We've been trying to get to our annual list of favorite Christmas movies for the last couple of days but due to the weather, we haven't had the time.  But it looks like we'll be able to get to it in the morning between winter storms.

It wasn't that 3.3 inches of snow, the official total yesterday, was such a big deal, it was more that it was the first snow of the season.  That always throws us into a spin, usually along I-164 somewhere.  But since most schools cancelled classes the night before, it actually went pretty smoothly for most of Monday morning.

A few weeks ago on the WIKY Morning Show, we talked about some of the hottest gifts this Christmas and ebooks really look like they're set for a big year but lots of question linger about what's best for them.  Amy Mangold of the Evansville-Vanderburgh Public Library visited the show yesterday with news of an exciting event.  Tonight, December 8, 6:30 at the Central Library, EVPL will conduct a "Meet the E-readers" party.  There will be a number of available devices to try out and compare.  Plus, it's free!
