This morning on the WIKY Morning Show, we chatted about an item we found online on kids’ haircuts. Specifically, haircuts we as parents should all avoid -

One of the hottest gift items for grown-ups again this Christmas will be an e-reader. If you’re not familiar with these devices, it’s basically an electronic book. You can download complete books from a variety of sources including the library. There are thousands of titles for free and thousands of others for pocket change. It sounds like a great idea and I might even use one if it were a gift. But, I’m just an old book kind of guy and not sure I could get used to reading on one of these contraptions. I like the feel o

Tonight, one of my favorite shows on television is back...."Human Target" on FOX.  Is it a great show? Certainly not, but it's got cool characters, lots of action, is highly entertaining and has some major eye candy in the lead actor, Mark Valley!  Besides, I'm just sick to death of all the cop and "procedural" shows that are currently gumming up the primetime schedule!

In case you missed the news, Prince William and Kate Middleton are finally engaged!! After 8 years of will-they or won't-they, the supense is over and a Spring or Summer of 2011 wedding is expected.  I guess I'll have to stay up all night to watch this one, just like I did when Charles and Diana tied the knot!  Here's the complete story from People Magazine.

With Thanksgiving just over a week away, we decided to chat about some odd foods you've had at Thanksgiving.  We heard from lots of listeners about things like Saltine Cracker Stuffing, Circus Peanut Jello Salad (EWWW!) and Cheese and Pineapple Casserole.  We thought that sounded a bit odd, but plenty of people have tried it and love it.  So, I went online and found that even Paula Deen makes it, so it must be good.  Here's the recipe for you........and Happy Thanksgiving!

This morning we found ourselves scratching our heads over the fact that Thanksgiving is just over a week away.  Not sure how that happened, considering we just put away our flip-flops, but there it is.

Here are a few Thanksgiving food myths that we discussed this morning on WIKY -

Plenty of contestants on the WIKY Morning Show's Culture Quiz mention that they're bowling when we ask them on the phone what they're doing.  This has led to a number of questions from confused, and some downright angry listeners, about how it is that so many people are getting through from this mysterious bowling alley.

It seems to have become a tradition - feeding veterans on Veterans Day.  Plenty of restaurants do it, Golden Corral and Applebees are a couple that come to mind, and the WIKY Morning Show, too, with our Sixth Annual Vets Breakfast aboard the LST 325.

When we decided we wanted to do something special for Tri-state vets six years ago, the LST hadn't been docked in Evansville for that long and we weren't sure if they wanted to do anything like a free breakfast.  They didn't hesitate to agree and it's been going on every year since.

We chatted on the WIKY Morning Show about an article we found and the reaction was quite interesting.

First, here are seven clear signs you might have a work spouse from CNN.com and Career Builder.com -

In our house, Jeff does most of the cooking, which is fine with me.  He's very creative in the kitchen, and like most creative types, he has his "routine" when he goes to the grocery store.  As a matter of fact, whenever we go to the store together, I get accused of stealing his "supermarket mojo."

Don't forget that this is the weekend we finally get our hour back from last Spring.  Set your clocks back one hour Saturday night before you hit the sack.

As my wife Lora and I walked into the Walmart in Newburgh last night, we were greeted by a large, decorated Christmas tree inside the door.  Really can't complain that it's too early, it's November after all, but it does force you to start thinking about what to buy as gifts this year.

We talked about it on the WIKY Morning Show.  The Consumer Electronics Association’s holiday forecast is officially out:

Earlier this week, we had a Love Court entry about a first-date deal-breaker and it's generated another topic of conversation.  First Date Nightmares!

We had plenty of people call and email with horror stories about first dates gone  bad, but this has to be my favorite of them all.  Here's the email I got:

Sometimes on the morning show, we'll share a story that is simply amazing.  This morning we had one of those stories.  Straight from the news wire, here it is:

"A 15 month-old baby girl survived a fall from a seventh-floor apartment in Paris almost unscathed after bouncing off a cafe awning and into the arms of a passer-by.

The infant had been playing unsupervised with her four-year-old sister when she somehow fell out the window.

Occasionally on the morning show, we have a fun little feature we like to call "Love Court."  Someone writes in with a dilemma, and we all have "jury duty" to try and help them resolve whatever their issue is. It's always a lot of fun and the responses are insightful and some are downright hilarious!

This morning we talked about a first date "deal-breaker" for this young woman.  Her issue was her date pulled out a coupon to pay for dinner....on their very first date and for her it was a total "no-no."

I hate Autumn and by that I mean, I love Autumn.  It's the most pleasant weather of the year.  But the days after Halloween, plunging headlong toward the big Fall and Winter holidays, grow shorter and shorter and become a constant deadline on squeezing in a few more warm season activities before we're locked inside for the Winter with the kids.

Since we live on a dead-end street with only 7 houses on it, we don't get that many trick-or-treaters for Halloween.  So this year, I decided to go and hang out at my mom and dad's house and help give out candy.

A website recently compiled a few rules of thumb for trick or treaters and what's funny is that they still apply, no matter how many years it's been since you last went door to door on Halloween.

1. Old people are either very generous or give you one peanut. There is no in-between.

According to the experts, you can't fake a smile.  You may think you can, but it's a pretty hard thing to do if you know what to look for.  Diane and I were talking about it this morning.

Everyone has two smiles, according to the article from the Wall Street Journal - a real smile and a fake smile.

Every year at Halloween comes the old debate over full-size candy bars vs. fun-size candy bars. Which is better?

In my humble opinion, there is nothing better than opening up your Trick-Or-Treat bag and seeing a great big FULL SIZE Snickers or Baby Ruth candy bar waiting!  As DJB said, "Fun Size is annoying size!"

My husband Jeff posted this video on his Facebook page and I just think this is a wonderful story!

Zach Beckman is a senior at Jasper High School who has Down's Syndrome.  He's been a loyal and valueable member of the football team for four years and his dream was to score a touchdown during a game.

Well, thanks to the generosity of the Mt. Vernon football team and their coach, Paul Maier, he was able to do just that. I had to grab the Kleenex about halfway through this video.

It seems the first time I saw anybody do something really different with pumpkin carving for Halloween was on the old Roseanne show.  The show featured incredible pumpkins carved to look like Frankenstein, Dracula, and a haunted house.  They were very clever and looked terrific.  I also remember reading about another pumpkin artist who used a laser to minutely carve amazing detail in his pumpkins.
