A cup of coffee on the patio a little past dawn Saturday morning, still up well before everyone else.  I remembered that I started doing it in high school – getting out of bed and ready before everyone else.  The reasons were obvious – a shower with guaranteed hot water, first crack at anything for breakfast (especially advantageous for pop tarts or Wheaties in short supply,) and maybe twenty minutes of the Three Stooges before the bus came.  Granted, it was a challenge beating my dad out of bed.  A lifetime in the Army had provided few opportunities for luxurious slumbe

**  With all of the celebrity deaths we've reported over the past couple of weeks, we had some good news this morning concerning Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees.  He was near death last week in a coma as he battle pneumonia.  But, he woke up from the coma over the weekend, and although he is quite weak, he is responding to his doctors well!


**  Huge news in the world of Major League Baseball over the weekend: Phil Humbar of the Chicago White Sox pitched a perfect game over the Seattle Mariners!  It's only the 21st perfect game in Majo

April 20th WIKY Morning Show

** Another celebrity obit this morning to pass along, and this was a big one for Diane.  Jonathan Frid, who played the vampire Barnabus Collins on the original "Dark Shadows," passed away at the age of 87.  For a whole generation, their afternoon wasn't complete without watching the gothic soap that was "Dark Shadows!" Diane even had this Barnabus Collins "Dark Shadows" Board Game!

AB on a Keyring

With the passing of Dick Clark I remembered a number of years ago getting a package in the mail with a 50th anniversary keychain for American Bandstand.  It had the famous AB logo on one side in blue and "50 years of Bandstand" on the reverse.  With it a handwritten note from Dick thanking me for my support over the years.  It was just so cool.  I wore that keyring out in my pocket and had to retire it when the loop broke.  Dick Clark was one of my heroes.

**  Of course, the big news item yesterday afternoon was the passing of Dick Clark at age 82.  I think everyone has their own memory of what he meant to them, whether it was watching him on "American Bandstand," on "The $10,000 Pyramid," or watching him countdown to the New Year on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve."  The man was a pioneer in so many facets of the radio and television industry.  I found this obit on  Dick Clark online yesterday, and I thought it was fascinating.  Click on this link to check it out.
