Great James Taylor story on the WIKY Morning Show

In case you missed it this morning, Diane chatted with Jay from Fire and Rain Marketing about his close encounter with James Taylor yesterday afternoon.

Click on the link below to hear Jay  tell it in his own words.

July 9th WIKY Morning Show

Diane here.....flying solo this week as DJB takes his daughter Amanda to freshman orientation at Ball State! It's hard for me to wrap my head around that, since I've known Amanda since she was in middle school. Her sister Kathryn will be a senior at Castle High School this fall. Time seems to fly by faster and faster each year, but it's been a blessing to see DJB's daughters grow up into the smart, talented and beautiful young women they are.

July 6th WIKY Morning Show

While the heat wave rages on with the temperature expected to top 106 degrees today, we're wondering if some relief is on the way. 14WFIE Meteorologist Byron Douglas says next week we'll have some temps back into the upper 80's and around 90. You know it's been brutal when the upper 80's will feel much cooler!

Some new movies in theatres this weekend include "The Amazing Spiderman," which is getting good reviews.  Katy Perry's concert film "Part of Me" is also out now.

July 5th WIKY Morning Show

It's a Thursday that feels like a Monday.....isn't it weird to have a holiday smack dab in the middle of the week?

We talked about Andy Griffith's passing. This is one celebrity obituary that really bummed out DJB and my husband. Both of them are big fans of "The Andy Griffith Show." One of Andy Griffith's later movie roles was in "Waitress." It also features Keri Russell and a pre-"Castle" Nathan Fillian. I can't recommend this movie enough....it's a little gem!

The fireworks on the Evansville riverfront were spectacular!

The WIKY Facebook Page and a post yesterday

Mark Elliott – program director of WIKY Radio here.  Yesterday, a listener (Angie Walker Leslie) posted on the WIKY Facebook page about a news story.  I won’t recap the story here, as it was tragic and very personal for Ms. Leslie. (Click here for a link to the story in the Local News section of this site.)  However, in that post there were some claims about the news story that were not true.  We debated removing the post but thought it best to reply in the comments, which we did.

July 3rd WIKY Morning Show

With the ban on persoal fireworks, we invited Mayor Lloyd Winnecke to join us to talk about that and also the Evansville Fireworks show.  He said that as of right now, the riverfront fireworks show is still on, but he's in constant contact with the fire chief and if the wind condition pose a real threat to public safety, he'll pull the plug. But as it stands now, the show will go on as planned in Evansville.  The Newburgh fireworks show, however, has been cancelled.

Perpetual Fireworks Ban

There are plenty of people upset about the local fireworks bans this year due to the weather conditions.  It’s perfectly understandable, too.  Some folks just can’t celebrate Independence Day properly without cutting loose a few bottle rockets or Roman candles.  But for me, it’s been a lifetime ban on fireworks so I’m not so upset.  My cousin Mike, a number of years my senior, threw a firecracker into a ditch when he was a kid, a rock flew out and yes, he actually PUT HIS EYE OUT!  He’s had a glass eye ever since.

July 2nd WIKY Morning Show

The big news out of Hollywood over the weekend was the report that Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise. She also filed for sole custody of their daughter, Suri....what is THAT about? I found this article interesting....seems that Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman and Holmes all filed for divorce from Tom when they turned 33! Coincidence? Hmmmm.
