Rob Evans has been selected as the Evansville Museum’s 2010 Martha and Merritt deJong Memorial Artist-in-Residence. In conjunction with his residency and weeklong classes, 35 of Evans’ paintings will be featured in the Main Gallery exhibition, MAGIC & MYSTERY: THE ART OF ROB EVANS, from June 27 – August 29.
Artist and independent curator Rob Evans lives and works in Wrightsville, Pennsylvania. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Syracuse University in 1981 and has been awarded grants from the Ford Foundation, Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation and the Pollack-Krasner Foundation. Evans’ meticulous paintings and drawings have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions including the Evansville Museum’s 2007-2009 nationally traveling exhibition, Object Project.
Most recently, Evans’ 10 foot painting, Cicada, traveled to five museums in the state of Pennsylvania as part of the exhibition, Artists of the Commonwealth: Realism in Pennsylvania Painting 1950-2000. His work is included in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art, the Corcoran Museum of Art and the San Francisco Art Museums, among others.
Evans offers this insight into his work, “Having been raised by scientist parents, I have always had a fascination with the sciences. For the last 20 years, my paintings have been based primarily on direct observations of the forces of nature at work: the passages of time; the cycles of life and death; growth and decay; changes of season and weather; the mysteries of life.” |

Does your office have living indoor plants and do you help keep the neighborhood clean?
If you answer yes to these and other simple questions, then you are a GreenOVATION winner.
Nominations are due by July 31.
Keep Evansville Beautiful and the Evansville Business Journal are seeking self-nominations for the GreenOVATION Awards. The expanded program honors efforts of offices throughout the tri-state for work to create beautiful, sustainable, welcoming communities. There are no winners and losers; there is no critique or judging. A simple form completed and returned to Keep Evansville Beautiful is all that is required.
“Even if you are on the 10th floor, or in the middle of the mall, you can be a winner in GreenOVATION,” said Mary Scheller, KEB Program Coordinator for Beautification. “We already have 18 winners and still have 2 weeks to go,” she said. Anyone with the Excellent or Merit points wins.
For example, typical points criteria are picking up litter, growing plants in or outdoors, recycling, and striving to be a good neighbor. “GreenOVATION is about honoring those who make this a welcoming community,” Scheller said. “KEB and the EBJ would love to have 100 winners this year.
The new GreenOVATION Awards includes categories for indoors and outdoors, for those who have no greenspace and for those with large campuses even out across the board to honor good neighbors, outreach, and all sorts of efforts at creating a green, welcoming community, Scheller said.
Do you turn off your computers at night?
Do you help fight litter on your block?
Do you have an Energy Star appliance?
Get your nomination in today!
For a nomination for call KEB at 812 425-4461 or visit their website www.keepevansvillebeautiful.org.
