Waxing Poetic About "Corn Toasties"

The other day on the show, we were talking about foods that take you back to childhood and I ended up posting a blog about it on Facebook.  A very dear friend of mine remembered bringing "mass quantities of Corn Toasties" when they would come and visit us in Ohio.

For those of you who don't know my entire history, I was born in New York, grew up in the Cleveland area and moved to Madison, Wisconsin when I was a freshman in high school.  One East Coast item that I've NEVER been able to find anywhere in the Midwest are Thomas' Corn Toasties!  These are little round corn cakes that you throw in the toaster and they get all crispy on the outside and they're spectacular with melted butter on 'em!

My mom visited family in New York this summer and what did she bring back to Evansville, but......wait for it.....Corn Toasties!!  She even hoarded them and didn't share, but I digress.

I got tons of comments from people asking me exactly what were Corn Toasties and why I've had a lifelong love affair with them.  I don't really have an answer to the pull that Corn Toasties have on me.  Perhaps it's because they're not available here and absence makes the heart grow fonder.  Who knows?  All I know is I put my buddy Rick Kersting of the Westside Schnucks on the case to see if he cold possibly order them.  I sure hope so.......just thinking about them is making my mouth water and my knees go weak!
