WIKY Morning Show Re-Cap for June 15th

WIKY Morning Show Re-Cap June 15, 2011

** On a visit last week to the WIKY Morning Show, Indiana Police Sgt. Todd Ringle mentioned to us the ISP is slowly phasing in the new Dodge Charger as the primary police cruiser replacing the long used Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor.   The Chargers are on the highways now so look for ‘em.

** We shared a report that the Army is ditching the black beret as the standard uniform head cover and returning to the old field cap.  Read more about here - http://www.usatoday.com/news/military/2011-06-14-army-beret-combat-uniform_n.htm

** The FDA has updated its guidelines on sunscreen.  It’s something we’ve discussed on the WIKY Morning Show a couple of times already this summer.  Read more here - http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/15/science/15sun.html?_r=1

** A new study is out and Diane doesn’t like the sound of it - Researchers at the University of Michigan analyzed data from car crashes between 1988 and 2007 and they looked at the genders involved in the accidents.  Once they took out factors like time of day, weather, and the fact that men drive more miles on average than women, they found one unusual result of their data:  There are an unusually high number of car crashes that involve two women.  In fact, statistically, that's the MOST likely combo for an accident.

The researchers didn't go as far as saying this means men are better drivers than women, but their report reads, quote, "There are three factors [that contribute to an accident.] "Being at the wrong place at the wrong time, one's own driving skills, and the driving skills of the other driver."

Just in time for Fathers Day, we shared this year’s Top TV Dads -

#1.)  Cliff Huxtable, "The Cosby Show"

#2.)  Ward Cleaver from "Leave it to Beaver"

#3.)  Jim Anderson from "Father Knows Best"

#4.)  Howard Cunningham from "Happy Days"

#5.)  Andy Taylor from "The Andy Griffith Show"

#6.)  Mike Brady from "The Brady Bunch"

#7.)  Ozzie Nelson from "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet"

#8.)  Charles Ingalls from "Little House on the Prairie"

#9.)  Tim Taylor from "Home Improvement"

 #10.)  Ben Cartwright from "Bonanza"

#11.)  Danny Tanner from "Full House"

#12.)  Peter Griffin from "Family Guy"

#13.)  Steve Douglas from "My Three Sons"

 #14.)  Dan Conner from "Roseanne"

#15.)  Archie Bunker from "All in the Family"

Peter Griffin and Dan Conner are new additions this year.  They bumped out Homer Simpson from "The Simpsons" and Al Bundy from "Married with Children", who tied for 14th place in 2009.  WIKY listeners thought it a shame that Danny Thomas and Herman Munster didn’t make the list this year. One of Diane's favorite TV dads didn't make the list either, and that was Bill Bixby as Tom Corbett on "The Courtship of Eddie's Father." Happy Fathers Day!

** And bringing to mind the sudden, surprising, shuddering of Golden Corral on the West Side, a tale of a restaurant closing that was a lot worse –

Over the weekend, the Marie Callender's restaurant chain went bankrupt.  They need to close down 65 of their locations.  And for one location in the Seattle area, the higher-ups needed to shut it down IMMEDIATELY.  On Sunday afternoon, after Marie Callender's declared bankruptcy, some corporate officials went to the location in Seattle and told everyone inside they were shutting it down on the spot.  And get this . . . the customers there didn't even get to FINISH THEIR MEALS.  They had to put down their knives and forks and leave.  They didn't even get carryout containers.  But, we're assuming, they also didn't have to pay.

Mapp Chhim was the manager at that location.  He says, quote, "I thought it was a big joke because I was like, 'I still have people in the restaurant.'  And they were like, 'They need to leave.’ So Chhim had to help kick out everyone in the restaurant, including a birthday party of 25 that was celebrating in the back room.

Marie Callender's will end up cutting 2,500 jobs as they close down 65 locations.

And apparently, other locations might get that mid-meal shut down treatment . . . so if you go eat at one, make sure to have a back-up plan.  (--Or bring your looting sack to jam full of pies.)

Culture Quiz Question: According to research, it's the most common animal to appear in a woman's dream. What?  Answer: A snake!  (Yikes!!)
